Five tips for choosing a rental car for your summer trip in the Baltics

Car rental

The summer tourist season is in full swing, so when planning your holiday trips, you should think in advance about the most comfortable way to get around and the right type of car for your holiday. To make the most of your holiday trips, the experts at EconomyBookings.com have put together some useful tips to help you choose the right rental car for your trip.

Car categories

There are a number of factors that will help you choose the right car for your summer trip. Most rental cars are classified into:

- Compact/Economic - four seats, ideal for two adults and two children;

- Medium - five seats, capacity for four adults and one child;

- Full-size (premium, luxury or SUV) - five seats, suitable for five adults;

- Vans - up to seven seats, ideal for larger groups.

For special occasions, there are also sports and luxury cars, for example. Recent trends show that electric cars are becoming increasingly popular, but it is important to bear in mind that many resort towns have a limited number of charging stations on offer.

Similarly, an electric car will not be suitable if you plan to go on mountain trips, where there are often only small regional petrol stations without charging facilities, said the Latvia-based car rental company Booking Group Corporation (EconomyBookings.com).

Criteria for choosing a rental car

1 Choose a car type that fits your needs: Before choosing a car, be aware of how many people will be travelling, how much luggage will be involved and what the route will entail. Most often, when renting a car for the summer holidays, you have to choose between two types of car, standard and compact sizes such as saloons and larger cars such as SUVs.

A smaller car is a good choice if you need to get from A to B. Similarly, small cars will be convenient in an urban environment as they will make it easier to get around sometimes difficult and narrow streets. Also, parking options tend to be very limited in tourist-filled resort towns, so it will be easier for a smaller car to find a parking space. Unlike a compact car, a larger car will be a more practical choice if you are going camping with a lot of luggage or if you are planning a group trip, for example.

2. Take road conditions into account: If you plan to travel in mountainous or inaccessible terrain, a four-wheel drive car, SUV or crossover is more suitable. This will ensure safety and make the more difficult roads a fun adventure. And SUVs have plenty of interior space, so you can take everything you need to enjoy, for example, a meal with a great view on a mountain.

3. Think about fuel consumption: Summer trips often mean longer distances, so an economical car can be a financially viable option that will also reduce time consumption, as there will be no need for regular stops at petrol stations.

4. Use safety features and equipment: If long journeys are planned, consider the safety features of the car. If you are renting a car for comfort and adventure, check the car's interior features, such as Bluetooth music and air conditioning.

5. Check the rental terms and insurance: Before renting a car, check the rental terms and insurance carefully. Read the contract carefully, observe the security requirements and make sure you have the necessary insurance cover.

Finally, remember that the choice of car depends on individual needs and travel plans. Before you book a car, think about your requirements and budget to choose the right transport for your summer trip!
