Let's take advantage of our moderately warm summer this year to enjoy outdoor activities without worrying about overheating in the sweltering sun. The Lithuanian Resorts Association has put together a selection of interesting outdoor activities in Lithuania to suit every mood and fitness level.

Sail on land in Neringa

The resort town of Neringa is located in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Curonian Spit National Park, which amazes everyone with breathtaking landscapes and delights with a variety of active leisure activities.

For those who love active recreation, Nering is a must for a Blokart sail along the Baltic Sea coast. This activity is particularly exciting if you don't want to sail in open waters. Just 5 minutes of instruction from an instructor will allow you to fully enjoy the coastal sea breeze blowing into the Blokart sail on your own. Blokart can also be sailed in the Nida airfield area. It is a windsurfing-like sail equipped with a seat and three wheels. Everyone who tries a Blokart wants to do it again and again.

Blue Flag beaches in Nering

The resort town of Nering is a particularly popular Baltic Sea beach resort. Here you can enjoy a peaceful respite as well as physically active recreation on the specially designed sports fields. The beaches are well maintained and provide all the necessary infrastructure: benches, changing cabins, sports courts, sports trainers. A professional lifeguard team is on hand to ensure beach safety. Nida and Juodkrante, the most popular beaches in Neringa, receive the Blue Flag certificate every year, certifying their compliance with the highest standards of environmental quality and access to services.

Neringa scenic cycling route

In Neringa, you can combine a seaside holiday with a bike ride. The cycle route, connecting all the settlements of the resort town of Neringa, winds through the picturesque Curonian Spit by the sea forests. The cycle path has no steep climbs and has rest areas, making it suitable for cyclists with little experience. The 52-kilometre cycle path is the southern part of the coastal cycle path, which is included in the EuroVelo route EV-10-"Hansa Ring" and is part of the European Cycle Route R1. The cycle path route offers the opportunity to see picturesque places such as the Avikalns Mountain, the Pilkaja Dunes in the Nagliai Nature Reserve, Preila Dunes, Vecekruga Dunes, Cape Bulvikas.

Water sports facilities in Birštonas

Birštonas resort attracts lovers of active recreation with its excellent entertainment offer. In summer, boat trips along the winding Nemunas and Verknes rivers are popular. Boat trips take around 1 hour, depending on the route chosen. There are also kayaking routes of varying difficulty and length. In the Birštona Wakepark, wakeboarding tracks are available for more extreme water sports enthusiasts to fully enjoy the synergy of water and speed.

Climbing tower in Birštonas

The professional climbing tower "Smagu Lipti" in Birštonas invites everyone to test their strength or overcome their fear of heights. The climbing tower is 12 metres high and has 7 walls and 26 different routes so that everyone can choose the one that suits their fitness level.

Horseback riding in Birštonas

A popular horse farm is located right next to the Birštonas resort, in the Nemunas Loops Regional Park. It is an unforgettable experience to enjoy the scenic nature of the park on horseback. There is a wide range of horse riding on offer to suit all levels of fitness. Horses will be happy companions on a nature trek, for the first time in the saddle, for experienced riders on horseback rides and for regular training.

Night rides in an LED-lit transparent kayak in Trakai

The most romantic of summer adventures is to fully experience the magic of a starry summer night from a fully transparent LED-lit kayak. If you want to see the depths of the lake without diving, this is definitely the place to do it - from a fully transparent kayak, you can see beneath the clear waters of Lake Galvė. A unique opportunity to explore the underwater depths - see fish, rocks, cliffs and take a look at the underwater sculpture park near the Slėnis campsite. The lake surroundings also offer scenic views: the amazing grandeur of Trakai Castle, the magic of Užutraksiai Manor combined with fabulous sunset views. On weekdays, a 1-hour trip costs EUR 15, on weekends, from Friday onwards, the price is EUR 20 per hour. A night cruise is 30 EUR/€.

A farm in the village of Seimeņu in the Trakai region offers a chance to see the calm and positive alpacas. The alpacas will charm everyone with their big eyes and smiling faces. They are always happy to welcome visitors who bring a treat.

Yoga on a SUP board in Ignalina

The Ignalina region offers a wide range of SUP activities: yoga on SUP boards, watching sunrises and sunsets, playing paddle football, night safaris, paddle tours of different routes. You can also try a family or friends trip on one SUP board by renting a Megaladon, which is suitable for 4-5 people. This is a great and definitely fun water activity, allowing everyone to experience an unforgettable trip together.

River trips in Ignalina

This is a new active recreational opportunity, walking on the water of the river bed. It is an expedition for people who are always looking for new and unprecedented adventures, who want to challenge themselves, to get to know themselves in different challenges. The hike is not extreme, so it will be perfect for active families, collectives and groups of friends.

Kitesurfing in Palanga

Kites, skateboards, bicycles and, above all, lots of wind, nature, active recreation and absolutely no stress. On Palanga beach, everyone can experience the synergy of wind and water by trying their hand at kitesurfing. Instructors with international IKO qualifications will help both beginners and experienced kiters to tame the coastal wind. All kitesurfing equipment can be rented or replenished at the existing sports equipment shop, where you can find equipment, clothing and accessories. Kitesurfing activities can be chosen for half a day, a weekend or a whole week. Only by trying it can you find out how exciting kitesurfing is.  

Learn to wakeboard in 2 hours in Palanga

During the training you will get to know the principles of wakeboarding, learn the theoretical part by watching a video and do your first tests on the grass. This will be followed by 1,5 hours of practice in the water, allowing every beginner to reach their optimum speed. 

Experience shows that the vast majority of beginners can complete their first laps on a wakeboard after the first practice session, and by the second practice session they are already starting to get the hang of the basic tricks. "The 313 Cable Park wakeboard park in Palanga is the newest and most modern wakeboard park in Europe. The park has a café with a spacious terrace with a perfect view of the lake, and the tricks performed by the athletes will leave no one indifferent.

Kayaking in the Šventoji River

Kayaking in the Šventoji River is a great idea for an active holiday. People of all ages can go kayaking, but children under 16 can only kayak with an adult. Trips are possible for up to 30 people. There are several scenic routes for kayaking, allowing you to observe and get to know the flora and fauna of the Šventoji River.

Outdoor tennis and golf in Druskininkai

Active recreation with a little competition or excitement helps to relax even better and more efficiently. Golf or outdoor tennis, for example, are perfect examples of this. Tennis lovers will appreciate Druskininkai's modern outdoor courts, which allow you to fully enjoy the game of tennis. Druskininkai also has a Scottish Links golf course that meets international standards. 

With a playing distance of more than 10 km, this is probably one of the most difficult golf courses not only in Lithuania, but also in the whole Baltic region. So if you've ever thought of trying one of these aristocratic sports, Druskininkai has the right conditions for it.

A flight over the Nemunas River in Druskininkai

The UNO Park adventure park in the centre of Druskininkai offers an unusual experience - you can cross Lithuania's largest river, the Nemunas, at 55 km/h while dangling from a rope. The park has rope and net trails of varying difficulty so that everyone can have an exciting day. Many of the park's trails are designed to offer great views of the Nemunas River. And the best place to find out more about the so-called Elephant Flight - a free fall from a height of 21 m - is in the park - after all, it is better to try it once than to hear about it many times.

From snow to the tropics in Druskininkai

Druskininkai can offer a wide range of entertainment for the whole family at any time of the year. Even in our mildly warm summer, you can feel like you're in a southern resort - the water temperature in Druskininkai Water Park is always 30-31 degrees, while the water in the pools is around 26-27 degrees. And you can go skiing in the height of summer - just open the door to the Snow Arena, where the average air temperature ranges from 2 to 4 degrees below zero and the high-tech ski slope ensures fresh snow without any chemical additives.

Bicycle routes on the banks of the Nemunas in Kaunas district

The towns of Kačergine, Zapyškis and Kulautuva in the resort area of Kaunas District are connected by cycle paths that run along both banks of the Nemunas River. The 30 km long route offers natural landscapes, the rich history of the towns and interesting sights.

The Nemunas Left Bank Cycle Route runs from the centre of Kaunas through Kačergine to Zapyškiai. Along the way, you can climb the legendary Pypli Castle Mound, see an impressive bicycle sculpture and walk along the Kačergine Landscape Trail. In the town of Kačergine, you will see villas from the inter-war period that have retained their authentic appearance, as well as the unique St. Anne's Chapel. Zapyškis welcomes cyclists with one of the region's most important sights, the cultural ship Nemuno7. The former riverbed cleaner has been reborn as a multifunctional cultural space where historical technologies intertwine with new forms of art, creativity and culture. 

A ferry suitable for cyclists runs between the two banks of the Nemunas from the Zapyskie Pier, allowing easy access and exploration of the recreational areas and sights created on both banks. Kulautuva, on the other bank of the Nemunas, invites you to try various water sports in the quarry's water park. Above the mineral water well, there is a great place to refresh and relax surrounded by a green pine forest.

Hiking and Nordic walking trails in the Kaunas region

To escape the noise of the city and enjoy the tranquillity of nature, the hiking trails through the pine forests of Kačergine and Kulautuwa are inviting in all seasons. The Šaltinės Trail, which runs along the mountainous Kacergine Moor, will delight you with its picturesque Nemunas outcrops. 

Along the way, you can see the impressively large ant, fox and badger caves and enjoy the varied bird calls. Accompanied by the sound of springs gushing out of the ground, the route leads to the legendary Pypļi Castle Mound, which overlooks the confluence of the Nemunas and Nevėžys rivers. This route is a great choice for Nordic walking enthusiasts.

Hike to the wooden sculpture park Kulautuva in memory of the ancient Baltic gods

On the Kulautuva Health Trail you can try one of six trails of different lengths, from 2.6 km to 6 km. All routes are circular - where you start your journey, you will end it. The trails wind through mountainous terrain and sandy pine forests. The most popular trail for families with children is the 2.6 km green trail. There will be rest areas and children's playgrounds along the way, and the route culminates in the Valley of the Gods and Goddesses, a wooden sculpture park commemorating the ancient Baltic gods.
